Emil & Remilla: Married | Fairfield, CA Wedding Photographer

After receiving Remilla‘s email inquiring about our photography services for her and Emil’s Fall wedding I knew that they were the perfect couple for us.  They were the type of couple we wanted to photograph.  It sounds silly to proclaim such a statement from something as simple as words in black and white but something drew us to them.  Looking back in hindsight, it was the artist in both of us.

We photographed their engagement session sometime in the Summer and since then we’ve been way too excited to the days leading up to their “big day”.  Not only because it gave us a chance to kick it with them again but because we were excited to see all the love they put in to the wedding details.  From the handmade boutonnieres to Remilla’s hairpiece and bird cage veil, there were so many special intricacies that made this day truly theirs.

Congratulations to the both of you!  Thank you for letting us be a part of your day.  You guys rock!  Thanks, Jong Arcega, for allowing us to photograph your daughter’s big day.  I hope we made you proud!;-)

Oh, and thanks to my little bro, Mike Yra, for copping that significant red umbrella in a clutch when we needed it.  You see how it made such a huge difference, Mike?

Matthew & Ariana: Married

Here are a few stolen moments from Matt and Ariana’s wedding.  It was an honor to be a part of your day!

film first

It was once Madelynn’s first camera and now it’s Cameron’s first camera. I knew if I was going to teach her how to shoot it had to be with film first.

Joshua & Michelle | South San Francisco Engagement Session

Trying to put into words Joshua and Michelle’s story may take more than one blog post so instead we tried to convey that story with images.  We started their engagement session in their South San Francisco home capturing them in their natural environment that they share with their two daschunds.  From there we headed off to a few significant landmarks with them.  During their first date they met at Starbucks before walking down the street to attend church at Abundant Life Christian Fellowship together.  After a few dates they ended up grabbing a drink at The Old Pro Bar in Palo Alto where she ordered a Manhattan and he ordered himself a beer.

Joshua and Michelle, we had so much fun watching you guys revisit these special places.  You deserve the best!  We can’t wait to photograph your wedding story!  :-)

Jose Tamez - Great photo essay! My favorite is the great looking guy in the gray suit walking with beautiful young woman in a blue dress, holding a Starbucks iced coffee. They must be professional models or something… wow!

Lynda Smith - Thank you for sharring your most intimate beautiful pictures with us so we all can see your special love for each other!

Congratulations to both of you and I will be at your wedding in spirit and love!

Darrien

There comes a point in life where you realize that there are just some things that are bigger than us, bigger than what’s in front of us.  Some of us go through the motions everyday and never come to this realization.  For others, we come to this revelation sooner than others and your whole perspective of life changes.

When I heard the news that my friend’s 3 year old son was diagnosed with cancer, I was crushed.  Anyone with young children can sympathize.  Having a son about the same age as Darrien it was tough for me to wrap my head around the idea of a baby being diagnosed with cancer. . . and not just any type of cancer, a very rare and aggressive brain cancer called Atypical Teratoid Rhabdoid Tumor (AT/RT).

Already having gone through surgery to remove the tumor and on his second round of chemotherapy, this little man has gone though more physical challenges than most people endure in a lifetime.  Suddenly everything that seemed daunting in my life no longer mattered.  The concept of business was unimportant.  I felt helpless but I knew I needed to do something and all I knew was that I needed to capture and document life for them.  Before they could even ask Amari and I if we would photograph Darrien and the rest of the family I had already put the schedule in motion.  We had to do this.  No questions asked.

Seeing Darrien for the first time after surgery and chemo was difficult.  If you know me, I pride myself with having such a hard exterior shell but in reality I am a real big softy to the core.  This was no exception.  I had to keep it together and compose myself but in actuality all I really wanted to do is hug him and squeeze him and smother him with kisses as I do with my own son.  Plus, I had to stay strong for his parents.

As soon as we got into our car, I cried all the way home.

Vanessa & Michael, you are such strong and courageous people and I admire you wholeheartedly.  We are here every step of the way.

Darrien, you are my hero.  You are a soldier.  Keep fighting!!
