Trying to put into words Joshua and Michelle’s story may take more than one blog post so instead we tried to convey that story with images.  We started their engagement session in their South San Francisco home capturing them in their natural environment that they share with their two daschunds.  From there we headed off to a few significant landmarks with them.  During their first date they met at Starbucks before walking down the street to attend church at Abundant Life Christian Fellowship together.  After a few dates they ended up grabbing a drink at The Old Pro Bar in Palo Alto where she ordered a Manhattan and he ordered himself a beer.

Joshua and Michelle, we had so much fun watching you guys revisit these special places.  You deserve the best!  We can’t wait to photograph your wedding story!  :-)

These two Bostonian transplants came to us not too long ago to photograph their engagement session.  It was easier said than done, I may add.  We wanted to encompass a Bostonian style with a Cali twist but the only problem was, Cali and Boston have two distinct styles. . . more like historic charm versus modern motif.  So instead of getting stuck on looking for anything that resembled Boston’s infamous Brownstone architecture we brought it back to what it is all about: THEM.

Kwajo & Laurie, thank you for trusting us with our vision and allowing us to be as artistic as we wanted.  There’s no doubt in our minds that you guys will be awesome parents.  Can’t wait to kick it again soon!

A few months ago, Alhea contacted me about photographing her and James’s engagement session.  A few months later, we were off in the boroughs of San Francisco snapping away.  We started off the day grabbing a few shots of espressos and tea and hiked our way through Sutro Heights Park.  I have to hand it to them, they were a little nervous at first since they weren’t sure what they were supposed to do or how to act in front of the camera but they eased up fairly quickly.  We couldn’t stop laughing most of the time and that is exactly what we wanted from them.  Nothing forced or fabricated.  Just have fun and be themselves.  We may have broken the law a few times during the day but it’s was all in good fun.

Alhea & James. . . thanks trusting our creative vision.  Thanks for risking your necks for this shoot and being open to photograph just about anywhere.  (“I should go call the cops.”)  Here’s to Hawaii 2012!

Photographing weddings is always an honor whenever we’re asked to cover one.  It’s always exciting to witness new beginnings unfold; To watch life unfold.  In this particular case, we were honored that, exactly one year after we photographed their wedding, Manny & Roxana asked us to photograph their anniversary.  We spent that the day in Santa Cruz reminiscing about how their wedding went and what’s been going on with their lives ever since.  (Not to mention crackin’ jokes all day too!)

Meet Remilla & Emil.  We had the honor of photographing the engagement session of these two artistic gems.  So, in light of their newly found love of Oakland, we decided to do their shoot there.  We started around the Lake Merritt area and worked our way down to Temescal to share a very large pepperoni and anchovy pizza at Lanesplitter.  Very yummy, by the way.  We then ventured off downtown near Oaksterdam University and photographed in the surrounding areas. . .  They were such good sports, especially after nearly stepping in doo doo and testing their limits in all kinds of unorthodox poses.  All Remilla kept saying was, “I trust you guys. . .”  :-)

Rem & Em, thank you for entrusting us to push the creative envelope with you guys.  You guys are the best!  Can’t wait for the wedding!

There are some things in life that people take for granted but they don’t realize it until their world completely changes.  In this case, it’s not some profound epiphany nor is it something emotion driven.  It’s simply is: alone time.  You see, people who don’t have kids don’t get it but for those who do, alone time is something that is, for the most part, nonexistent.  Having 4 kids of our own, the only alone time Amari and I seem to have together is when we’re actually on a shoot and well, when the kids fall asleep.  (But, *ahem*, that’s another story. . .)  It’s a common story really.  Most people who are married with kids can empathize.  For Del & Marnie, photographing their anniversary session was a welcome break of alone time from their busy schedules and their two adorable young boys.  Now, don’t get us wrong, we love the kids. . . but sometimes, parents just need that breather to reconnect with one another.

We basically ventured off in San Francisco, touring parts of China Town and Little Italy.  Not really having a set route we set off with our cameras and walking shoes in tow and, well, just kicked it.  We found a quaint Thai restaurant for lunch which surprisingly had a well-stocked bar.  Knocking a couple Patron shots, Marnie and I took full advantage of not having to worry about packing a car seat right after our meal.  Simple pleasures.  It was a fun shoot and we got some really cool shots of them.  We laughed hard.  Mostly at Amari, which is always fun.  ;-)

Wilnea and Morris have been together for years after first meeting each other at a New Years Eve celebration so when Morris said he had a surprise for her, she expected what any long term girlfriend expected–to him put a ring on it!  Little did she expect that he was going to gift her a horse.  Not to worry, the ring didn’t follow long afterwards.

Because they spend so much time at the stables not tending to their two horses we wanted to incorporate that as part of their engagement session.  We also ventured to Golden Gate Park to snap a few images of them there as well.

I’ve known Angela and her family since she used to rock pigtails.  Okay, maybe not pigtails but you get the idea.  My best friend, after all, is married to her older brother so she’s practically family to me.  So when I found out that her and Dave were getting married I was as excited as any big sister would be.

Amari took them out over the weekend and photographed their first official engagement session.  They told us that they have never really taken any professional photos together but based on these frames I would have never guessed.  These two are just way too cute.  I just want to give them a big bear hug whenever I see them.  They were both naturals and it didn’t hurt that they both have that Colgate smile.

Ang & Dave, thanks for spending a few hours with us.  Congrats you two!
